Children’s Ministry

What is AWANA?

AWANA is a fun-filled international evangelism and discipleship ministry for children ages 2 to 18 that actively involves parents, church leaders and mentors. The prayer of the AWANA ministry is that all children and youth throughout the world will come to know, love, and serve the Lord Jesus Christ. www.awana.org

2012 marked the Kansas City Northland’s 5th annual Zambia AWANA Walk-a-Thon fund raiser to bring the message of Jesus and salvation to hundreds of children in Zambia. This year $10,000 was raised! The AWANA club at Bishop Benson’s Calvary Worship Center in Mufulira received $5000, Pastor Collin’s club in Kitwe received $1500 and Pastor Joseph’s club in Murundu received $3500. These funds are used each year to buy books, uniforms, game kits, provide leader training, Bibles, and food/refreshment for the clubs.

The Walk-a-Thon is a fun way to be involved in intenational missions work.  Each walker is assigned to a team and provided with a fund raising/information packet.  Each walker/family is asked to raise $100 or more during the 2 or 3 weeks leading up to the event (which is usually held in early May).  We walk together in the Harmony Vineyard Church’s parking lot (located at 600 NE 46th Street, Kansas City, MO  64116) for about hour to upbeat praise music – celebrating what God has done!  Lots of fun prizes are awarded. Watch for next year’s date; your group, family, or church could form a  walking team and help further the great commission

2013 Update

We visited all 3 clubs in Kitwe, Mufulira & Murundu. They are doing well. Each club has over 200 children. Ndola desperately wants a club for their children.

2014/2015 Update

We raised funds to help start 21 new clubs in Zambia following a new international format. Over $18,000 was sent to help with these AWANA clubs.

2016 Update

With our new direction we will not be having a Walk a thon for AWANA this year. Our focus will be the hospital in Murundu.
